Champdieu is a commune in the Loire department in central France.
History
This region was developed into a monastery and surrounding village by the Benedictine monks, when the King of Aquitaine granted the lands to Berno of Cluny, whom eventually passed the fief on to this nephew Vido of Champdieu. The town and name of Champdieu evolved in the course of ages. First of all CANDICUS (Roman leader), then in the 11th century the village is called CANDIACO. It becomes in the 13th century CHANDIACO then CHANDIEU and becoming in the 16th century into "FIELD-GOD" expression in French to finally in 1801 to be registered CHAMPDIEU.

The origin of the village parried be previous to Carolingian times.
