Chatfield Trail

The Chatfield Trail is a 4.3-mile (or 4.6-mile depending on which entrance is used) Blue-Blazed hiking trail located within the town of Killingworth, Connecticut.

There are two trailheads at the northern end of the trail near the entrance to Chatfield Hollow State Park.[1] The first is located on the south side of Route 80, about 0.3 miles west of the park entrance. There is an area on the side of the road where about 4 or 5 cars can park. This is the trailhead listed in the Connecticut Walk Book East.[2] From this entrance to the end of the trail is 4.3 miles. There is also a marked trailhead, directly across Route 80 from the parking lot at the park entrance, which accesses a trail extension that meets up with the trail at about 0.05 miles south of the other entrance. This route adds 0.3 miles to the length of the trek.

The northern section of the trail is located within Cockaponset State Forest. The southern sections of the trail pass near Deer Lake Camp and through privately owned property.

The southern trailhead ends at River Road, just west of the intersection of Papermill Road and River Road.[3]
