Blackwater is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. It is part of the Gila River Indian Community. The population was 504 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Blackwater is located at 33°1′56″N 111°35′45″W / 33.03222°N 111.59583°W / 33.03222; -111.59583 (33.032359, -111.595938).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 17.9 square miles (46 km2), all land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 504 people, 135 households, and 110 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 76.5 people per square mile (29.5/km²). There were 140 housing units at an average density of 21.3/sq mi (8.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 0.99% White, 0.20% Black or African American, 94.64% Native American, 3.37% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. 15.08% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 135 households out of which 48.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.1% were married couples living together, 34.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.8% were non-families. 13.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.73 and the average family size was 3.98.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 41.5% under the age of 18, 12.3% from 18 to 24, 23.0% from 25 to 44, 17.7% from 45 to 64, and 5.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 22 years. For every 100 females there were 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $33,438, and the median income for a family was $28,854. Males had a median income of $35,909 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $8,674. About 30.1% of families and 26.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.8% of those under age 18 and 63.0% of those age 65 or over.

In 2010, Blackwater had the lowest median household income of all places in the United States with a population over 1,000.[3]
