The subfamily Alcelaphinae of the family Bovidae contains wildebeest, hartebeest, bonteboks and several similar species. There are ten species in four genera, although Beatragus is sometimes considered a subgenus of Damaliscus, and Sigmoceros for the Lichtenstein's hartebeest.[1]
