Season chronology

The twelfth season of The Bachelorette stars Joelle "JoJo" Fletcher, a 25-year-old real estate developer from Dallas, Texas.[1] Fletcher was the runner-up on the The Bachelor season 20 featuring Ben Higgins. The season premiered on May 23, 2016.[2] The season concluded on August 1, 2016, with Jordan Rodgers becoming the winner.

Filming and development

Casting and contestants

Casting began during season eleven of The Bachelorette. Days before the official announcement, Fletcher's fellow The Bachelor season 20 contestant and second runner-up Caila Quinn was originally selected to be in the lead role,[3] but she was dropped at the last minute for Fletcher by the producers and American fans of ABC's The Bachelorette.[4]

Filming commenced on March 16, 2016 shortly after the twentieth season of The Bachelor. Destinations including Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, Uruguay, Thailand, and Argentina with appearances from Dan + Shay, All-4-One, Max Kellerman, and Marcellus Wiley.[5][6][7]

The cast includes former American football quarterback Jordan Rodgers, the younger brother of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.[8]

Future appearances

Christian Bishop, Chad Johnson, Daniel Maguire, Evan Bass, Grant Kemp, Vinny Venteria, and Wells Adams were all chosen for the third season of Bachelor in Paradise. Johnson was removed from the show by Chris Harrison in episode 1 for aggressive behaviour towards everyone and finished 30th, placing last. Bishop finished in 26th/27th. Venteria quit in 24th. Maguire was eliminated in 19th/21st. Adams was placed in 9th/10th. Bass and Kemp co-won the season along with Bachelor Nation alums, Carly Waddell and Lace Morris.

JoJo greets three former bachelorettes: Kaitlyn Bristowe, Desiree Hartsock Siegfried, and Ali Fedotowsky. They give advice on being the bachelorette.

At the Bachelor mansion, JoJo greets the men as the limos arrive. Memorable moments include: Robby brings a bottle of wine to drink out of, like Jojo's mom; James T. sings a song he wrote for her, while playing his guitar; Wells brings All 4 One who sings "I Swear" to introduce him; Nick B. wears a Santa Claus suit; Chase wears a fake mustache on his face; Jonathan wears a kilt representing his Scottish heritage; and Luke arrives riding on a horse dressed as a unicorn. Daniel is seen taking off his clothes and jumps into the swimming pool, making some of the other men laugh hysterically. Alex, a U.S. Marine, does push-ups while JoJo sits on his back. Nick B. tries to further impress with JoJo as she sits on his lap. Ali plays Beethoven on the piano for JoJo. Luke spends a lot of time talking with JoJo to make a better impression, but JoJo gives the first impression rose to Jordan.

Former bachelor Jake Pavelka comes to the mansion at the beginning of the rose ceremony. He turns out to be a family friend of JoJo whom she has known for years, he gives JoJo advice about choosing her husband-to-be.

Rose ceremony: Luke received the first rose and Daniel got the last rose. Coley, Jake, Jonathan, Nick S., Peter and Sal were eliminated.

Group Date: Luke, Grant, Will, Evan, Daniel, Vinny, Ali, James F., Wells, and Robby meet with JoJo at a fire station, where they are given a demonstration about fire safety tests. Wells receives a rose.

One-on-One: Derek and Jojo take a private jet flight to San Francisco where they have a picnic together by the Golden Gate Bridge. He receives a rose.

Group Date: Jordan, Christian, Nick B., James T., Alex and Chad. The men and JoJo attend ESPN to take part with SportsNation and meet hosts Marcellus Wiley and Max Kellerman. They participate in a segment called BachelorNation, with three separate challenges. James T. wins the segment, and receives alone time with JoJo. She gives a rose to him.

Cocktail Party: The men start the party and JoJo arrives to join them. When Chad gets confrontational with the other guys, Evan steals JoJo away for some alone time.

Rose Ceremony: Alex received the first rose and Chad got the last rose. Brandon, James S. and Will were eliminated.

One-on-One: Chase and JoJo take a yoga class and go to a winery, with a surprise from Charles Kelley. He receives a rose.

Group Date: Nick B., Chad, James F., Evan, Christian, Daniel, Vinny, Grant, Wells, Jordan and Alex. They meet with Jenna Brister for a sensual sex class. Evan receives a rose, leaving Chad upset and hot-headed.

One-on-One: James T. and JoJo fly to Culver City to take swing dancing classes. He receives a rose.

Continuing from the previous episode, the guys are having a pool party inside the mansion instead of the normal cocktail party. Evan fights with the other guys inside the pool. Chris Harrison arrives at the mansion, leaving Chad uncomfortable with his future in the competition.

Week 3 Rose Ceremony: Ali, Christian and Nick B. are eliminated.

Week 4 Prologue: Chris sends the men to Pittsburgh to meet with JoJo.

One-on-One: Luke and JoJo have a relaxing hot tub experience at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Afterwards, they attend a concert from Dan + Shay. He receives a rose.

Group Date: Grant, Jordan, Chase, Robby, Vinny, Wells, James T., Evan, James F., Derek and Daniel. They take a ferry ride to Heinz Field to meet with JoJo and play football. Professional football players Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward and Brett Keisel give them tips and since Jordan knows football very well, he receives a rose.

Two-on-One: Alex and Chad join JoJo to go camping. Alex expresses the rest of the men's concerns about Chad to JoJo. JoJo gives the rose to Alex and eliminates Chad, much to the delight of the remaining men.

Concluded from the previous episode, Chad returns to the lodge. He interrupts the remaining men's party inside, much to Jordan's dismay. Soon, he finally leaves for good.

Week 4 Rose Ceremony: Daniel and James F. are eliminated. Afterwards, the remaining men travel to Uruguay.

One-on-One: Jordan and JoJo board a yacht to Isla de Lobos and swim with seals. He receives a rose.

Group Date: Wells, James T., Chase, Luke, Alex, Derek, Grant and Evan. JoJo accompanies the men to go surfing on Uruguayan sand dunes, but it ends with a torrential rainstorm that cancels their outing. Derek receives the rose and felt reassured.

One-on-One: Robby meets with JoJo at a night club in Punta del Este, and they walk downtown to a fireworks show. Robby receives a rose.

Rose Ceremony: There was no cocktail party for the week, instead having a rose ceremony. Evan, Grant and Vinny are eliminated. JoJo announces to the guys they will head west to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

One-on-One: Wells and JoJo explore the city and sights on the streets of Buenos Aires, until reaching the city park where they see a Fuerza Bruta. Wells doesn't receive a rose and is eliminated.

Group Date: James T., Alex, Jordan, Robby and Luke. The five men stroll off on the streets of the La Boca neighborhood to play soccer with the locals. James T. tells JoJo about Jordan's obnoxious behavior. JoJo confronts Jordan on the spot, and she gives a rose to Luke.

Two-on-One: Chase and Derek meet with JoJo and take part in a tango. They are serenaded by Soledad Pastorutti. Jojo gives a rose to Chase, eliminating Derek.

Cocktail Party: JoJo surprises the remaining men by spending their time together.

Rose Ceremony: When JoJo is nervous about eliminating one man at the end of the week, her decision remains uncertain and she asks to meet with Chris. She eventually gives roses to both Alex and James T.

One-on-One: Alex and JoJo meet up with two Gaucho. At dinner, Alex reveals he loves Jojo, but is eliminated when JoJo does not feel the same way.

Group Date: Chase, Robby, and James T. Rain interrupts JoJo's original plans for the date, so she and the men spend the day in a hotel room playing games. Robby is given the rose.

One-on-One: Jordan and JoJo have a wine-themed date. During dinner, Jordan opens up about his poor relationship with his brother Aaron. He receives a rose.

One-on-One: Luke and JoJo ride horses and go skeet shooting. He receives a rose.

Rose Ceremony: James T is eliminated.

Chase: Chase and Jojo build a snowman before JoJo is introduced to Chase's father in his hometown in Colorado.

Jordan: JoJo and Jordan visit his high school in Chico, CA. She sees pictures of Aaron Rodgers on the wall, but Jordan refuses to talk about him and says he is estranged from the family. Jordan brings her home to meet his parents, and his older brother, Luke.

Robby: Robby and JoJo ride in a horse and buggy through his hometown in Florida. At his house, Robby's mom tells him of a rumor that he broke up with his ex-girlfriend to go on the show. He brings this up to JoJo and assures her it is a lie.

Luke: Luke introduces JoJo to many family and friends. Luke has a heart-to-heart with his father, but fails to tell JoJo he loves her.

Rose Ceremony: Luke calls JoJo aside before the rose ceremony, fearing he is about to be eliminating. The ceremony ends with "To be continued..."

Rose Ceremony: In a continuation from the previous week, Luke is eliminated.

Robby: JoJo and Robby get Thai massages. At dinner, Robby reiterated that he loves JoJo and gives her a note from his father to prove how he feels. She gives him the invitation to the fantasy suite, and the two spend the night together.

Jordan: Jordan and JoJo go for a hike and end up in a temple. At dinner, JoJo questions Jordan about their future together. Satisfied by his answers, she gives him the invitation the fantasy suite. In the morning, Jordan says the two took "a very important step" last night.

Chase: Chase and JoJo relax at the beach. At dinner, Chase opens up to JoJo and is invited to the fantasy suite. In the fantasy suite, Chase pours his heart out to JoJo but she tells him she does not feel the same way. He realizes he will be the next one eliminated, and storms off.

Rose Ceremony: With Chase absent, JoJo still wants to present the remaining two men with roses. Chase surprisingly shows up, and apologizes for how he reacted the previous night. Robby and Jordan are given roses.
