Kvam is a village and former municipality in Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the northern part of the present-day municipality of Steinkjer. The village is located along the northern shore of the lake Snåsavatnet along the European route E6 highway, about 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) northeast of Følling. Most of the population of Kvam lives along the lake shore. Farther north from the lake includes a wilderness area including the large lakes Gilten and Bangsjøene. The main church for the area is Kvam Church, located in the village of Kvam.[1][3]

History

The municipality of Kvam was established on 1 January 1909 when it was separated from the large Stod formannskapsdistrikt to become a municipality of its own. Initially, Kvam had a population of 1,169. On 1 January 1964, a major municipal merger took place: the municipalities of Kvam, Beitstad, Egge, Ogndal, Sparbu, and Stod merged with the town of Steinkjer to form the new municipality of Steinkjer. Prior to the merger, Kvam had a population of 1,245.[4]
