Catbalogan Airport (IATA: none, ICAO: RPVY) is an airport located in Catbalogan, the capital city of Samar, Philippines. It is classified as a feeder airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, a body of the Department of Transportation and Communications that is responsible for the operations of not only this airport but also of all other airports in the Philippines except the major international airports. Catbalogan Airport is a feeder airport in the province of Samar located in Barangay Cabugawan on Buri Island connected via land bridge to the coast of Barangay Silanga, Catbalogan.

The Catbalogan Domestic Airport was assessed by the Air Transportation Office in January 2006 and a program of work was prepared for submission to the Committee on Oversight of the House of Representatives for its completion soon.

History

In 1995, the government approved 57 million pesos ($2.2 million) for building the airport - a pet project of Congressman Catalino Figueroa, a member of former president Fidel Ramos's Lakas-NUCD party. In three years, just 100 meters of the airport's runway has been paved. In Samar and Leyte, two of the poorest islands in the country, the landscape has long been dotted with unfinished projects.

In July 2006, Congressman Figueroa visited the Palace and requested funding for Samar roads and the Catbalogan Domestic Airport in Buri, Catbalogan City. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo granted P20-M for the initial implementation of the said airport.[1]
