Rajnagar (community development block) (Bengali: রাজনগর সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Suri Sadar subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Rajnagar police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Rajnagar.[1][2]

Geography

Rajnagar is located at 23°57′N 87°19′E / 23.95°N 87.32°E / 23.95; 87.32.

Rajnagar community development block has an area of 221.20  km2.[2]

Gram panchayats of Rajnagar block/panchayat samiti are: Bhabanipur, Chandrapur, Gangmuri-Joypur, Rajnagar and Tantipara.[3]

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Rajnagar block had a total population of 69,698, out of which 35,545 were males and 34,153 were females. Rajnagar block registered a population growth of 13.26 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]

Scheduled castes at 24,087 formed over one-third the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 11,064.[5]

Literacy

As per 2001 census, Rajnagar block had a total literacy of 58.26 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 70.40 per cent female literacy was 45.68 per cent. Birbhum district had a total literacy of 61.48 per cent, male literacy being 70.89 per cent and female literacy being 51.55 per cent.[6]
