Vazashen (Armenian: Վազաշեն) is a town in the Tavush Province of Armenia. It is the site of ancient Xałxał (Armenian: Խաղխաղ), where Saint Vardan won his first military victory.[1] Until recently, it was known as Lala Geł (Armenian: Լալա գեղ), then Lali Gyuł (Armenian: Լալի գյուղ).[2] The name of Vazashen was chosen to reflect the local vineyard production[3] (վազ/vaz 'grapevine' and շեն/shen 'village').
