Nawaz Sharif Medical College (Urdu:نواز شریف میڈیکل کالج) is a medical school located in Gujrat, Punjab, Pakistan.[3][4] It is registered with PMDC, listed in IMED, affiliated with PGMI and UHS, and approved by Ministry of Health. Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital is attached to the college as a teaching hospital. The college is colloquially referred to as NSMC.

History

Chief Minister of the Punjab Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the school as the constituent college of the University of Gujrat in September 2008.[5] It was established to provide medical education and healthcare facilities for industrial regions of Gujranwala, Sialkot and Gujrat. The first principal of the college was Dr Nasir Aziz Kamboh.The second principal was Dr sajjad Hussain.

Campus

The college is housed in one of the blocks of the University of Gujrat. On 15 March 2012 Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the college and approved the construction of a new building for the college adjacent to the university. The new campus spans 62 acres.[6]

Departments


Admission policy

The College admits 90 students on open merit. Admission is gender neutral and is granted through a centralized Medical College Admission Test conducted by the University of Health Sciences Lahore annually. The foreign students can apply for admission against 10 reserved seats through the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.[7]

Teaching hospital

Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital, DHQ Gujrat has been attached with Nawaz Sharif Medical College as teaching hospital. It has 450 beds capacity at present.

Library

Besides main library, there are four constituent college's libraries. There are about 90,000 books available in all five libraries. A wide variety of on-line full-text journals' databases are available including Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Education and Research Network project. Thousands of digital books can be accessed through the library website on a variety of subjects.
