Cities and towns

The city/town population refers to the built-up area or the built-up area sub-division population, it's not same as the population of its council. For example, Leeds had a town (built-up) population of about 475,000 in 2011 but the Leeds Council area also includes the Yorkshire countryside and smaller towns around it, and controls a population of 750,000.
