Iwaki-Ōta Station (磐城太田駅 Iwaki-Ōta-eki) is a railway station operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) in Minamisōma, Fukushima, Japan.

Lines

Iwaki-Ōta Station is served by the Jōban Line, and is located 282.4 km from the official starting point of the line at Nippori Station. However, due to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, services have been suspended indefinitely.

Station layout

Iwaki-Ōta Station has two opposed side platforms connected to the station building by a footbridge. The station was unattended.

History

The station opened on 11 May 1898 as Taka Station (高駅). It was renamed Iwaki-Ota on 1 December 1898. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987. The station was closed on 11 March 2011 following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.

Surrounding area

Iwaki-Ōta is within the evacuation zone surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Since April 2012 it has been possible for residents to enter the area, but remaining in the area overnight is prohibited.
