Frida – The DVD is a 3½ hour documentary DVD, that covers the singing career of Anni-Frid Lyngstad, also known as Frida, one of the four members of Swedish pop group ABBA. The DVD was released by Universal in 2005.
Synopsis
Lyngstad began her musical career as a big band jazz-oriented vocalist. Frida performed as a solo artist both before and after her time with ABBA. This DVD was released on November 15, 2005, the same day as Lyngstad's 60th birthday.[1]
Content
The exclusive interview with Lyngstad was filmed in the summer of 2005, in Zermatt, Switzerland, with the Matterhorn in the background. Frida reminisces about her entire career, her private life, her audience, her friends and about the person she is today. From her TV debut 1967 with "En Ledig Dag" (A Day Off), to the TV performances she made in Germany 2004, performing "The Sun Will Shine Again", together with Jon Lord of rock group Deep Purple. Frida describes her singing technique, stage performances, and studio work. She explains how songs were recorded and performed. She sings jazz numbers, recorded for TV, and the DVD contains many rare clips. Of course she also speaks about ABBA and how she and Agnetha Fältskog developed as singers, as ABBA's recordings grew more and more complex over the years.
A one-hour TV-documentary about the recording and making of the album Something's Going On is included. Swedish Television filmed the whole recording process from day one in the studio to the release party, when the album was completed. This program includes interviews with Lyngstad, producer and drummer Phil Collins, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, as well as all of the musicians that contributed and took part in the recording.
There's also a TV-documentary about the making and recording of her 1996 album Djupa andetag (Deep Breaths), produced by Anders Glenmark. Studio footage and footage when making the video to the single "Även En Blomma" ("Even a flower") is included. The most exciting part is the filming of Frida in her Spanish house on Mallorca, where the cover photos to Djupa andetag were taken.
Included are all the promotional videos she made for her international solo projects, recorded after ABBA had disbanded.
