Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna is a role-playing video game developed by Gas Powered Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios and Mad Doc Software in 2003. it is as an official standalone expansion pack for the game Dungeon Siege and includes the full version of the original Dungeon Siege.

Gameplay

The gameplay remains largely the same as in original game, Dungeon Siege. However, the new storyline was presented, which includes new terrains, creatures, and items. The player also got a chance to use a new pet in order to transport items, a dinosaur-like creature, the Tragg, in addition to the original game's pack mule. One notable change is the addition of "set items". As in the name, set items were items in a set; if multiple items in the same set were equipped simultaneously, the buffs would increase.

Plot

Like the original, the story is set in the world of Aranna. The player assumes the role of another common farmer who has grown up hearing stories of great adventures in years gone by as the farmer's lost parents were adventurers. Now, craving adventure for him/herself, the farmer is ready to become a hero. Meanwhile, a powerful evil creature known as the Shadowjumper appears, and steals the Staff of Stars, a powerful artifact that the player's character is tasked to retrieve by the mayor of the town which the farmer inhabits.

Following the trail of the Shadowjumper and Staff of Stars, the hero journeys through the icy hills of Arhok, and later arrives on the lush, lost Utraean Island, which is covered by jungles, caves, and ancient cities. The Utraeans are an ancient race, known for its various biological experiments and creations, which now roam the homeland of their long ago creators. Many enemies are encountered and defeated by the player, including the Lost Queen, a massive Utraean monstrosity, Cicatrix, the undead centaur deathknight, and Nossirom, the Zaurask king. The hero also manages to locate his (or her) parents' tomb. Finally, the hero arrives at the mystical Great Clock, a giant artifact which controls Aranna's seasons, where the Shadowjumper has to be defeated and the Staff of Stars finally saved. After this, the hero goes back to Arhok to deliver the Staff of Stars, thus ending the journey.

Return to Arhok

Like with the original game, Gas Powered Games released a promotional "bonus pack" titled Return to Arhok, which expanded the game's story. The game continues the story of Legends of Aranna and requires both the expansion and Windows XP to run.[1] This add-on can be made to run on versions of Windows up to Windows 7 64-bit. This can be done by installing it on Windows XP and copying the extracted folder contents and associated shortcuts to Windows 7. While this process will make the game run on newer versions of Windows, it does have some compatibility issues with wide screen resolutions. These can be worked around by appending "nointro=true height=1080 width=1920" to the target line of the shortcut.

The town of Arhok is threatened by the humanoid cat race, Hassat. In order to save Arhok and make humans and Hassat live in peace, the player has to travel to jungles of Uthraean Island once again and save the King of Hassat from the minions of Raks, another monstrous creation of Utraeans.
