Cabela's Big Game Hunter is a video game for the PlayStation 2, Wii and Xbox 360 consoles. Published by Activision, it features the hunting areas of Montana's Beartooth Mountains, British Columbia in western Canada, Argentina's Patagonia region, a savannah in Ethiopia, as well as parts of Zambia. Some game animals in the game include grizzly bear, elk, mule deer, hare, grey fox, water buffalo, blue quail, partridge, and big horn sheep.

Plot synopsis

The player begins their hunting journey in the Beartooth Mountains in Montana where they must find hunting guide Ben Adams. After the players finds Ben, they are instructed to take down one mule deer from a tree stand. Then the player must find a guide by the lake who will take them across if they shoot two Rocky Mountain elk. After the player has taken down the elk, the guide takes them across the lake. Later the player must climb a rock in order to pass a tree but a grizzly bear scares them and they fall off. Then the player must take down a trophy mule deer and must cross a fallen log to get to it. After the player reaches the mule deer, the grizzly bear from earlier attacks. Once the grizzly has been eliminated, the player heads to British Columbia where they are instructed to find hunting guide Dubby McGeath. Then the player must find Dubby's brother Chester by navigating a cliff. After finding Chester, he instructs the player to take down three Yukon moose. After completing the task and returning to Chester, the player is told about a large moose lurking nearby. After taking down the moose, the player returns to Montana where they must take down three mule deer. Then the player heads up to the Upper Fields where they hunt some ring-necked pheasant. The player then goes to Drake Dickey and he tells them to hunt a bighorn sheep. Then, the player goes to an area where a trophy elk has been seen. After taking down the elk, the player heads to Argentina for water buffalo. After warming up by hunting gray fox, the player goes out and finds a trophy water buffalo. Once the buffalo is killed, the player heads over to Ethiopia. After the player hunts greater kudu and klipspringer, they come across and kill a trophy kudu. Then the player returns to Argentina. The player starts out by hunting some plains vizcacha. Then the player goes down a slope to hunt speckled teal. After this, the player hikes across a dry creek bed, looking for hunting guide Sid Perez. Once Perez is found, he tells the player to hunt two axis deer from a tree stand. After this is completed, the player hunts some more axis deer on foot. While doing this, the player finds a trophy axis deer. After bagging the trophy, the player goes to another area where they hunt blackbuck antelope and water buffalo. Then the player suddenly comes across an aggressive cougar. Once the cougar is killed, the player returns to Ethiopia, where it is currently bow season. After hunting some dik-dik, the player comes across a trophy hartebeest. The player then goes higher up into the mountains where they kill some nyala to bait a black leopard. After hunting the leopard, the player goes to New Zealand. The player starts off by hunting some invasive stoat. Then they go and hunt some red deer, one of which is a trophy. After this, the player comes back to New Zealand in the winter. After hunting some chamois and fallow deer, the player heads down a mountain to kill an aggressive wild boar. Along the way, the player finds a trophy fallow deer. Following the death of the wild boar, the player goes to Zambia, the last destination. First, the player hunts waterbuck and cape buffalo. Then, the player suddenly finds a trophy waterbuck. After this, the player gets word of a troublesome lion that has recently turned to hunting livestock. Once the player reaches the lion's territory, they hunt several jackal to use as bait. Then the player finds the large lion and, after a long fight, kills it.
