The 2016–17 Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team will represent Marshall University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Thundering Herd, led by third year head coach Dan D'Antoni, will play their home games at the Cam Henderson Center and are members of Conference USA.

Previous season

The Thundering Herd finished the 2015–16 season 17–16, 12–6 in C-USA play to finish in a three way tie for third place. They defeated UTEP in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament to advance to the semifinals where they lost to Middle Tennessee.
