The 2016–17 Hannover 96 season is the first since being relegated from the Bundesliga.

Background

Hannover were relegated from the Bundesliga.[1] They had been in the Bundesliga for 14 seasons.[1] This was the fifth time they were relegated from the Bundesliga.[1] Hannover 96 are looking for a new coach. During the 2015–16 season, Michael Frontzeck resigned[2] and Thomas Schaaf was sacked.[3] Daniel Stendel took over for the rest of 2015–16 season as interim head coach[3] and was eventually given the permanent job.[4]

Florian Hübner[5] and Sebastian Maier[5] joined Hannover. Marcelo returned from his loan spell. He had been on loan at Beşiktaş.[6] Ron-Robert Zieler left the club.[7]
