Sweeny Murti

Srinivas (Sweeny) Murti (born 1970) is a sports journalist who primarily covers the New York Yankees. He currently works for WFAN, SportsNet New York, and the New York Yankees Radio Network. He is the Yankees beat reporter for both WFAN and SNY and hosts the pregame and postgame shows for Yankees radio broadcasts.

Early career

Sweeny Murti grew up in Middletown, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of John C. Kunkel Elementary School, Middletown Area Middle School, and Middletown (PA) Area High School and its student-run radio station, WMSS (91.1 FM). Murti was Sports Director from 1984–88, with duties including play-by-play for Middletown Blue Raider football and basketball.

Murti attended Pennsylvania State University from 1988–92, graduating with a degree in Communications. While there he worked for radio stations WRSC/WQWK mainly as an on-air sports and news anchor, also as a producer for Penn State football post game shows and as an occasional FM DJ.

In 1991, Murti served as an intern at WFAN-New York.

From 1992–93, Murti worked for WHP-Harrisburg, Radio Pennsylvania Network, and WGET-Gettysburg.

Murti returned to WFAN in 1993 as a full-time producer and later part-time sports anchor. In 1997, Murti moved to WIP-Philadelphia as a full-time sports anchor, returning to WFAN in 1998 as the overnight sports anchor.

Since 2001, Murti has covered the New York Yankees for WFAN and is also a regular contributor to SNY and MLB Network. He has also been seen frequently on WNBC-4 New York, WCBS-2 New York, and YES Network.

Murti also covered the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and 2000 Summer Olympic Games for Westwood One Radio Network.
