Headline Pilipinas

Headline Pilipinas (lit. 'Headline Philippines') is the flagship noontime news broadcast of TeleRadyo in the Philippines. The program is the first and only newscast produced exclusively by the said channel which started to air on October 10, 2016 and shown Mondays to Fridays from 12:00 nn to 1:00 pm, (PST), replacing MMK Klasiks. The newscast is being simulcast on the main radio counterpart itself from June 19, 2017 to May 5, 2020, replacing the timeslot occupied by Maalaala Mo Kaya sa DZMM. MMK sa DZMM moved to a later slot at 2:00 pm, on DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 and at 9:00 pm, on TeleRadyo. On April 2, 2018, the program was switched to high definition format, making Headline Pilipinas the only channel-produced program that switched to the said picture format (coinciding with the fact that the news programs on the channel's sister main network were switched to the latter, which were introduced a day before).

Background

During the celebration of DZMM's 30th anniversary on October 4, 2016, the announcement came as a welcome surprise in order to expand the programming of the station's television counterpart DZMM TeleRadyo.

The program premiered on October 10, 2016 and is anchored by veteran broadcast journalist Tony Velasquez, together with DYAB / TV Patrol Central Visayas anchor Leo Lastimosa, and DXAB / TV Patrol Southern Mindanao anchor-reporter Melanie Severino. Velasquez delivers news from Metro Manila and Luzon, as well as other national stories, Lastimosa gives reports from the Visayas, and Severino gives reports from Mindanao.

On July 22, 2019, Headline Pilipinas has expanded to an hour replacing Radyo Patrol Balita Alas-Dose with Julius Babao serving as the co-anchor for Metro Manila and RC Dalaguit for the Visayas replacing Lastimosa.

Similar to ABS-CBN News Channel's noontime newscast Dateline Philippines, the newscast delivers the latest and the most relevant news gathered from all over the Philippines through the ABS-CBN Regional news teams and gives voice to Filipinos from different regions.[1][2]

On March 17, 2020, Headline Pilipinas moved from the ABS-CBN studios to the DZMM studios as part of the coverages of Luzon lockdown and the COVID-19 pandemic, and was simulcast on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays on the ABS-CBN News Channel, ending its simulcast on Saturday, April 18, 2020, and returning to the full schedule two days after.

Despite the closure of the network's Regional Network Group on August 28, 2020, Dalaguit and Severino remain as co-anchors of the program along with several correspondents and stringers reporting across the country. On October 12, 2020, ABS-CBN Zamboanga anchor-reporter Jewel Reyes replaced Severino as the Mindanao co-anchor.

Headline Pilipinas Weekend

On February 15, 2020, Headline Pilipinas started airing on weekends, as well as the introduction of weekend anchors, Ricky Rosales and Joyce Balancio on Saturdays and Adrian Ayalin and Raya Capulong on Sundays. The production studio is set on the DZMM studio instead of the main studio on the same day. The program started airing on Saturdays from 12:00 nn to 1:00 pm and Sundays from 12:00 nn to 12:30 pm, replacing Radyo Patrol Balita Alas-Dose Weekend as well as the Saturday current affairs program Ito ang Radyo Patrol.

However, the production of the newscast's Sunday edition was halted on March 22, 2020, due to the enhanced community quarantine done to help control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines and was replaced by provisional programming from the ABS-CBN News Channel on the same date, as well as the extended edition of Yesterday from April 26, 2020, when the timesharing of programming between both DZMM TeleRadyo and ANC ended.
