Zach Tarkir (born June 28, 1984) is an Americanformer professional ice hockey defender, who last played for IF Troja/Ljungby of the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan.

Playing career

After being drafted by the New Jersey Devils 167th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Tarkir went on the play four seasons with Northern Michigan University, posting 49 points and 194 penalty minutes in 151 games. He made his professional debut with the Lowell Devils of the AHL, playing 2 games during the remainder of the 2006–07 season. He then played 11 more games in the AHL the following season, before being sent down to the Trenton Devils of the ECHL for the rest of the 2007–08 season.

He played the 2008–09 season split between two teams, the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL, and the Portland Pirates of the AHL. The next season was split among four teams, the Stingrays, the Lake Erie Monsters, the Springfield Falcons, and the Norfolk Admirals.

On June 8, 2010, Tarkir left and signed a one-year contract in Europe for the 2010–11 season, with German team the Hannover Indians of the 2nd. Bundesliga.[1]

After returning to the South Carolina Stingrays for the 2011–12 season, scoring 34 points in 70 games, Tarkir again left for Europe signing a one-year contract with the Odense Bulldogs of the AL-Bank Ligaen on June 27, 2012.[2] Tarkir captained the Bulldogs to a Semi-final loss in the Ligaen for the 2012–13 season, providing 21 points in 40 games from the blueline.

On April 9, 2013, Tarkir opted to leave Denmark and signed a new one-year contract with Troja-Ljungby of the Swedish second tier, HockeyAllsvenskan.[3]
