WXIS (103.9 FM is a radio station serving the Tri-Cities region of Johnson City/Kingsport/Elizabethton/Bristol in Tennessee and Bristol in Virginia. The WEMB, Inc. outlet operates with an ERP of 6 kW and is licensed to Erwin, Tennessee, while its 92.3 MHz/6w translator is licensed to Johnson City, Tennessee.

History

WXIS was a Top 40 outlet known as "X-104" until it shifted to Rhythmic in 1999 as "Jamz 92.3/103.9". Despite its semi-spotty signal coverage (which is why the 92.3 signal is included in the slogan), it did well with its Rhythmic Contemporary format.

On September 12, 2016 WXIS began stunting with the sound of a heartbeat.[1] On September 26, 2016, WXIS flipped to all-News as "News 103.9 LiveWire Radio". The station's news clock is similar to that utilized by WCBS, including traffic & weather on the 8’s and sports at :15 and :45. The station is utilizing content from CBS Radio News, Bloomberg, and The Weather Channel, in addition to its own team of reporters and anchors.
