Turbo Megha Airways Pvt Ltd, operating under the brand name TruJet, is an Indian low-cost regional airline based at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. It was founded in 2013 by Vankayalapati Umesh, managing director of Turbo Aviation, and includes actor Ram Charan as director and brand ambassador. The airline, which began operations in July 2015, focuses on connecting Tier-2 cities and targets pilgrims and middle class travellers. As of December 2016, TruJet flies to nine destinations in India using three ATR 72-500s.

History

Turbo Megha Airways Pvt Ltd was incorporated on 14 March 2013.[1] The airline obtained a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Civil Aviation on 21 July 2014.[2] It adopted the brand name TruJet in February 2015.[3][4] TruJet has been established as a low-cost carrier providing connectivity between Tier-2 cities using ATR 72 aircraft.[5] It appeals to middle class travellers and pilgrims.[1] TruJet received its air operator's certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on 7 July 2015.[6] The airline commenced operations on 12 July with a flight from its Hyderabad hub to Tirupati.[7]

TruJet is headquartered in Hyderabad, a city in the Indian state of Telangana.[8] It is backed by 20 investors.[5] Vankayalapati Umesh serves as managing director, Telugu actor Ram Charan is a director and brand ambassador, and Prem Kumar is another director.[9] V. Umesh founded the airline and is also the managing director of Turbo Aviation, a ground support equipment manufacturer and charter airline.[2][3]

The airline's livery features a peacock on the tail, symbolising TruJet's Indian roots and its desire to provide "graceful, joyful and luxurious" service.[10]

Services

TruJet offers discounts to select categories of travellers, including members of the South Indian Artistes' Association and of the media.[13][14][15] The airline also provides a free bus service for its passengers travelling between Aurangabad Airport and Shirdi, a pilgrimage site.[14]
