Air India Regional is an Indian airline which was started as a low-cost arm of Indian Airlines as Alliance Air. As part of Indian's merger with Air India, it was renamed Air India Regional.[1] It operates 170 weekly flights to 42 domestic destinations as a subsidiary of Air India.[2]
History
Air India Regional was established as Alliance Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian Airlines on 1 April 1996 and started operations on 21 June 1996. It was renamed Air India Regional after the merger between Air India and Indian Airlines[3]
Destinations
The airline serves 42 destinations through its hubs in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai in Northern India, North-Eastern India, Southern India, Western India and Eastern India. It mainly flies to regional destinations across India from its metro hubs.

Incidents
- On 29 July 1998, 9 people were killed (6 on board and 3 on the ground) when Alliance Air Flight VT-EJW from Kochi to Agatti Aerodrome crashed into the Component Repair Shop (CRS) building in the Naval Aircraft Yard in Kochi in Kerala, India.
- On 17 July 2000, Alliance Air Flight 7412 a Boeing 737-2A8/Adv (registered VT-EGD) crashed near the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport in Bihar, India killing 60 people.
