Her father, the Prince of Genovia, is embroiled in scandal when he is arrested for racing a car in New York City and later is found to have fathered an illegitimate child. Mia finds out that she has a secret sister, Olivia Grace, aged 12. Olivia was the result of her father's fling with a charter flight pilot who later died in skiing accident. Olivia grew up with her mother's sister until Mia came and took her away. Also, Mia's boyfriend Michael proposes to Mia and a wedding is planned. Also Mia finally understands what her grandmother was trying to teach her all these years, is that when you go out into the real world there will be no one to cushion the blows for you and that her grandmother always made her face every situation no matter how difficult so that she will be ready when she grows up.
