Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary

Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Surajpur District, Chhattisgarh, India.^[1] It is named after the Tamor hill and Pingla Nalla, the old and prominent features of the area.Northern boundary is the moran river,Eastern Boundary is Bonga nalla and western boundary is rihand river. This was notified as WLS in 1978. In 2011 it was notified by Chhattisgarh government as a part of Sarguja Jashpur elephant reserve.There are seven revenue villages within this sanctuary namely Khond,Injani,Archoka,Durgain,Kesar,Chattauli,Dhaulpur. These villages except Khond are very small with less than 20 households. The tamor hills having an area of 250 km² is a table land rising sharply from the neighboring villages of tamki, ghui, barpetia.Neglect from forest department has led to sanctuary losing its tigers in 1990s. Then Naxal menace also gripped the sanctuary from 2003-2008.

Comprising Sal, mixed and bamboo forests, the area is under Tamor,Khond and Pingla ranges of the Surguja- jashpur Elephant reserve Forest Division. Spread over 608.55 km² (234.96 sq mi), the sanctuary supports Elephant, tigers, leopards, bears, sambar deer, blue bulls, chital, bison, four-horned antelope, chinkara, barking deer, wild boars, wild dogs, wolves, jackals, striped hyenas, hare, cobras, nag, pythons, red jungle fowl, brown jungle fowl and green pigeon.

November to June is ideal to visit the sanctuary.

The sanctuary is about 35 km (22 mi) north of Surajpur. Surajpur Railway Station is the nearest railhead. A forest guest house is available at Ramkola. Tourists and Researchers rarely visit this wildlife sanctuary.
