Sweet Briar, Virginia

Sweet Briar is an unincorporated community in Amherst County in the central part of the U.S. state of Virginia. It is approximately 11 miles northeast of Lynchburg. Sweet Briar is best known for being the home of Sweet Briar College, a women's college founded there in 1901. The ZIP Code is 24595.

The Sweet Briar College Historic District and Sweet Briar House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[1]

Demographics

Since the village is almost entirely dominated by the college, the average age is 20.3. The population is 860, with only 30 of those being males. 766 of the residents are White American. The per capita income is $6,744 USD, with a median household income of $27,969.
