Submittable History

Submittable was founded in 2010 by filmmaker Bruce Tribbensee, musician John Brownell and novelist Michael A. FitzGerald in Missoula, Montana with the goal of “democratizing the publishing process.” The company’s first clients were primarily small independent literary publishers such as Publishing Genius and Smokelong Quarterly who used the platform to accept and review the large volume of manuscripts they received from writers. The company eventually developed a feature set which lets any organization accept and review any file type including large audio and video files. .
