Southwest Virginia Community College

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) is located outside of Richlands, Virginia, United States, on the border of Tazewell and Russell counties, and is one of the 23 schools in the Virginia Community College System. SWCC was opened in 1968 to serve the residents of Buchanan, Russell and Tazewell counties.[1] Dickenson County is also partially served, along with Mountain Empire Community College. The school had 2630 students for the 2013-2014 academic year, with 58% being female and 42% male.[2]

In 2016, the school received a $1.4 million federal grant to retrain unemployed local coal miners.[3]
