Summer Olympics appearances (overview)

The Solomon Islands competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's ninth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics.

Three athletes from the Solomon Islands were selected for the Games, competing only in track and field, and in weightlifting; all of them received wild card entries, without having qualified. Weightlifter Jenly Tegu Wini reprised her role to lead the contingent as the nation's flag bearer in the opening ceremony.[1] Solomon Islands, however, has yet to win its first ever Olympic medal.

Athletics

The Solomon Islands have received universality slots from IAAF to send two athletes (one male and one female) to the Olympics.[2][3]

Weightlifting

The Solomon Islands have received an unused quota place from IWF to send a female weightlifter to the Olympics.[4]
