Sethu Superfast Express is a train route of the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and runs between Chennai Egmore and Rameswaram via Chord line. It is a standard train consisting of 22 coaches. The train covers a distance of 602 km with an average speed of 51 km/h.

Etymology

The name of the train commemorates the 18th century "Sethupathy ",who was the King of Ramanathapuram Samasthanam(Princely State) in Tamil Nadu.

The main cities covered by the route are Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Ariyalur, Tiruchirapalli, Pudukkottai, Karaikkudi, Sivagangai, Manamadurai, Paramakudi Ramanathapuram.From Tiruchirappalli to Chennai Egmore, this train is hauled by RPM/ED WAP4 Electric loco, and the section between Tiruchirappalli and Rameshwaram is hauled by GOC WDP3A/ ED WDM3D Diesel Loco. In between the Tiruchirappalli and Tambaram, this train achieves a maximum speed of 110 km/Hr.

Timing

The Sethu Express train starts from Chennai Egmore at 17.45 and reached to Rameshwaram at 4.35 (1 night). The train starts from Rameshwaram at 20.15 and reached to Chennai Egmore at 7.05. The train is running for all the days (S,M,T,W,T,F,S).
