Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 

The Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, also, Sangeet Natak Akademi Ratna Sadasya (Sanskrit ratna, "gem;" sadasya, "member") is an honour for the performing arts in India. Awarded by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama, and limited to thirty individuals at any given time,[1] it is the highest honour in the performing arts conferred by the Government of India.

History

The fellowship was established in 1954 and the first elected fellows were the Carnatic musicians Karaikudi Sambasiva Aiyer and Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, the Hindustani musicians Allauddin Khan and Hafiz Ali Khan,[2] and movie and theatre actor Prithviraj Kapoor.[3]
