Rashid Magomedgadzhievich Magomedov (Russian: Рашид Магомедгаджиевич Магомедов; born May 14, 1984 in Dagestan) is a Russian mixed martial artist of Dargin heritage, he is a former amateur Light heavyweight (179 lbs), Middleweight (165 lbs) boxer and current lightweight mixed martial artist competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.[1] Magomedov is also a former M-1 Global welterweight champion. He is currently the #15 ranked lightweight in UFC rankings as of 5 November 2016.[6]

Early life

Magomedov was born in Makhachkala, Dagestan. Rashid childhood engaged in various types of martial arts, karate first, then boxing and kickboxing. In each of these sports, he succeeded became the winner of the national competition. During the passage of military service Magomedov acted competitions Hand-to-hand army fight in 2004, he became the champion of Russia in the army fight. After an army he trained Combat Sambo.[7]

Mixed martial arts career

M-1 Global

Magomedov was scheduled to challenge for the M-1 Welterweight championship against Shamil Zavurov at M-1 Challenge XXX: Shamil Zavurov vs. Yasubey Enomoto II on December 9, 2011.[8] The fight, however, was postponed.

Magomedov faced Yasubey Enomoto on March 16, 2012 at M-1 Challenge 31. He won the fight via unanimous decision (50–45, 49–47, 50–45) and to become new M-1 Global Welterweight Champion.

Magomedov faced Alexander Yakovlev on November 15, 2012 at M-1 Challenge 35.[9] He won the fight via unanimous decision.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Magomedov made his UFC debut against fellow promotional newcomer Tony Martin in a lightweight bout on February 1, 2014 at UFC 169.[10] After surviving a tight arm bar submission attempt by Martin in the first round, he rallied to win the fight via unanimous decision (29–28, 29–28, 29–28).

In his second fight, Magomedov faced Rodrigo Damm on May 31, 2014 at The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale.[11] He won the fight via unanimous decision.

Magomedov faced Elias Silvério on December 20, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 58.[12] After winning the first two rounds, he won the fight via TKO in the third round after dropping Silvério with a stiff left hook and following up with punches, becoming the first man to beat Silvério.

Magomedov faced Gilbert Burns at UFC Fight Night 77 on November 7, 2015.[13] He dominated the three rounds and won via unanimous decision.[14]

Magomedov was expected to face Chris Wade on May 8, 2016 at UFC Fight Night 87.[15] However, Magomedov pulled out of the bout on March 7 due to a knee injury. He was replaced by Rustam Khabilov.[16]

Magomedov faced Beneil Dariush on November 5, 2016 at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 Finale.[17] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[18]
