Qardio, Inc. is an American technology company that specializes in heart health monitoring products. It operates internationally with offices in San Francisco, London, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong. The company was founded by Marco Peluso and Rosario Iannella. Qardio focuses on wireless wearable technology for heart health monitoring, including a blood pressure monitor, smart weighing scale and body analyzer, multi-sensor electrocardiography (EKG) monitor and describes its products as part of the Internet of Things. The company is privately funded.

History

Qardio, Inc. was founded by Marco Peluso and Rosario Iannella in early 2012, after Peluso's father suffered a stroke.[1][2] According to the company's website, Peluso's and Iannella's mission is to "revolutionize personal health monitoring by bringing innovative technologies, high-end design and exceptional user experience to the medical industry."[3]

Qardio's first product, QardioArm, a smart wireless blood pressure monitor, was market launched in June 2014 and is currently available for sale in 43 countries. Some major retailers include Amazon.com, Target, Best Buy, Walgreens, Euronics, Media Markt and Apple Store.[4]

At CES 2015, Qardio announced two new products, QardioBase - smart scale and body analyzer and QardioMD - a medical dashboard for doctors.[5] QardioBase became available for sale in November 2015.[6]

Products

QardioArm

QardioArm is an upper arm blood pressure monitor which is, currently sold in 43 countries around the world. It measures systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate and syncs the data to the Qardio App, available for iOS, Android and Kindle devices. Some of the Qardio App features include irregular heartbeat detection, automatic triple measurement average, measurement geolocation and notification to family or doctors and relaxation mode. QardioArm is powered by 4 AAA batteries and data is automatically synced to the Qardio App which stores and analyses user data.[7] Data from QardioArm is also integrated with Apple Health (application) and Samsung S Health. The Qardio App is also available for Apple Watch. QardioArm is the winner of the 2014 Red Dot Award for Product Design and 2014 UX Award.[8]

QardioBase

QardioBase is a wireless smart scale and body analyzer that measures weight, body mass index and body composition measurements including body fat percentage, muscle, body water and bone mass percentage. QardioBase syncs wirelessly with the Qardio App, available for iOS, Android and Kindle devices using Bluetooth or wifi connection. The Qardio App stores and visualizes all results with easy to understand charts and graphs. It also supports Apple Health and Google Health. The smart scale has 'Pregnancy Mode' for week by week weight monitoring during and after pregnancy. 'Haptic Feedback' sends a gentle vibration to notify the user the measurement has been taken and stored in the Qardio App, specially designed for visually impaired and less able users. In fact, the Qardio App has been designed to include a full voice-over, which in combination with haptic feedback allows those with visual difficulties to use the scale.[9] QardioBase is the winner of the CES 2016 Innovation Award.[10]

QardioCore

QardioCore is a wireless electrocardiogram monitor that continuously records ECG/EKG (electrocardiography) data along with heart rate, heart rate variability, body temperature, respiratory rate, stress levels and activity readings. The wireless EKG monitor is designed to improve detection of cardiac conditions while being small and comfortable enough to use in everyday life. The device is equipped with sensor technology, eliminating the need for wires and patches to detect heart function.[11] QardioCore is the winner of 2015 Red Dot Award for Product Design and the recipient of two CES 2015 Innovation Awards.[12]

QardioMD

QardioMD is an enterprise solution that allows healthcare professionals to remotely monitor the health of their patients, gaining access to the live data collected by Qardio devices. The dashboard is capable of continuously analyzing data from an unlimited number of patients, better utilizing a doctors’ time and resources. QardioMD is expected to launch in early 2016.[9]

Qardio App

All Qardio devices work with the Qardio App which stores users' data, visualizing them with charts and graphs and allows for data sharing with friends, family and doctors. The Qardio App is available for iOS, Android and Kindle and enhances the functionality of all Qardio devices. QardioArm was the first medical device to support Apple HealthKit[13][14] and first medical device to support the Apple Watch.
