Peter, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein[1][2] (German: Friedrich Ernst Peter; 30 April 1922 in Schloss Louisenlund, Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany[1][2] 30 September 1980 in Bienebek, Schleswig-Holstein, West Germany[1][2]) was the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein and Head of both the House of Glücksburg and the entire House of Oldenburg from 10 February 1965 until his death on 30 September 1980.[1][2] Peter was the third and youngest son[1][2] of Wilhelm Friedrich, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein and his wife, Princess Marie Melita of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.[1][2] He was a great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria through her second son, Prince Alfred.

Marriage and issue

Peter married Princess Marie Alix of Schaumburg-Lippe, daughter of Prince Stephan Alexander Viktor of Schaumburg-Lippe and his wife, Duchess Ingeborg Alix of Oldenburg,[1][2] on 9 October 1947 in Glücksburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.[1][2] Peter and Maria Alice had four children,[1][2] all of whom bore the style Highness:
