The Perodua Bezza is a four-door sedan produced by Malaysian automobile manufacturer, Perodua. It was launched on July 21st, 2016, as a sedan counterpart to the 5-door Axia.[3] The Bezza is the second model to début from Perodua's all-new second factory in Rawang, Selangor. It is also the first energy efficient sedan produced by Perodua. Perodua Bezza also the first Perodua's sedan car.

The name "Bezza", which is pronounced bez-za, is derived from the Malay word "beza", which means different. The letters ‘zz’ in ‘Bezza’ represents the number 22, as it was launched in Perodua's 22nd year in business.

The Bezza is an in-house effort with 95% local contents, and took MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) 300 million to develop. There is no equivalent Daihatsu or Toyota model at its launch time, therefore, it is the first Perodua to be designed locally. It is equipped with Electronic Stability Control, traction control, hill start assist, window jam protection for driver-side power window and solar and security window film safety feature, as well as remote keyless system (keyless entry system), making it the first ever Perodua car to receive such equipment. History

Pre-launch

The production of Perodua's first sedan was first being hinted during the 2010 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS), when Perodua debuted their concept model called Bezza.[1] Three years later, another concept model was presented by Perodua during the 2013 KLIMS; this time, it was called Buddyz.[2] Both models were designed in-house by Perodua's own design and styling division led by Muhamad Zamuren Musa, without referring to any existing Daihatsu or Toyota car models.[1][2]

The production of Perodua's first sedan was approved in 2015 by its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Aminar Rashid. The production model would be based on the Buddyz concept model and was codenamed D63D.[5] Because Perodua's main partner Daihatsu currently does not have any sedan car model being produced, Perodua had to develop their sedan model in-house based on the Axia platform.[6] Unlike their rival Proton, Perodua was able to develop their first sedan model secretly without public knowledge.[7] Perodua Bezza also the closet competitors to Proton Saga

Sales

Perodua has achieved promising sales for the Bezza, with a total of 5,000 bookings received for the new model on the first day after its launch.[8] During Perodua's first half of 2016 review, it announced that it had received 10,115 bookings as of the morning of July 26, which averages out to about 1,000 cars per day since the Bezza was first opened for booking on July 16.[9] On August 30, Perodua reported it had delivered 10,000 Bezzas, with the bookings at 25,000.[10]

Equipment

The Bezza has three variants - Standard G, Premium X and Advance.

The Standard G variant is equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels, fabric seats, polyurethane steering wheel, an audio system with USB, handphone or smartphone slot at the rear console, fixed rear seat headrests, 60:40 split folding rear seats, remote boot release, manual side mirrors without turn signals, body-mounted signal indicators, and power windows.

The Premium X variant has been added in equipment with the upgraded audio system with USB, which comes with Bluetooth, handphone /smartphone slot with 5V/2A USB charging port (at the rear console), adjustable rear seat headrests, manual side mirrors with turn signals, keyless entry system with push-to-start engine button, boot release button on the boot, chrome door handles, side mirror indicators and front fog lamps.

The Advance variant is the 'extra premium' version of the Premium X variant, therefore shares the same power-train setup as the Premium X. It is fitted with differently designed 14-inch wheels, the powered and retractable side mirrors with turn signals, and side skirting. For less fuel consumption, it is equipped with the "Eco-Idle System", similar to the Start-stop system. It also receives the multimedia audio system with navigation, Smart Link for Android only and reverse camera.

The Advance variant receives additional details, replacing the fabric seats and polyurethane steering wheel with leather. Its steering wheel has been provided with multimedia system controls.

This engine is equipped with Dual VVT-i and ECO Mode, meaning that it has variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves. The valve train also employs roller rocker arms, instead of a direct sliding system, to reduce friction and improve fuel efficiency, while the intake system has been optimized with longer ports, improving the low-range and mid-range torque.

The Standard G and Premium X variants have a choice over a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed electronic automatic transmission. The Advanced variant had only the choice of a 4-speed electronic automatic transmission.
