Necrosis (band)

Necrosis is a Chilean thrash metal band, active from 1985 to 1990 and from 1999 to present, in the denominated "thrasher scene" characterized by rebellion against the dictatorship and organized society. Necrosis and bands like Pentagram, Dorso, Torturer, Warpath, Massakre and Rust helped to the Chilean thrash metal massification.

History

Beginnings and prompt separation

Necrosis was formed in 1985, but only in 1987 the group started a professional job, when the brothers Andy and Pepe Nacrur from the popular band Massakre starts with vocalist Andrés Marchant the efforts to disseminate the successful demo tape Kingdom of Hate (es). Necrosis and bands like Rust, Pentagram, Warpath, Massakre and Back were the most successful of the time and the most known abroad. Necrosis line-up at the time was Andy Nacrur (drums), Nataniel Infante (guitar), Pepe Nacrur (guitar), Rodrigo Westphal (bass) and Andrés Marchant (vocals). The demo Kingdom of Hate had a big impact in Chile and rave reviews in foreign magazines such as the famous Morbid Magazine in those years, where it is among the top 25 demos of the world in 1987, ranking at No. 19. Necrosis performed several gigs in the country and sold 1500 copies of the demo tape, unprecedented at the time (especially for a band playing music considered "extreme").

In early 1988, Andrés Marchant travels to Brazil on vacation and brings some copies of the demo Kingdom of Hate. In Brazil, a country considered a big market for the worldwide underground metal movement, the label Heavy Metal Maniac Records (now Hellion Records) was interested in releasing a Necrosis LP, which would be recorded in Chile and produced in Brazil. In March 1988, Necrosis signed a deal to record the first full-length album from a Chilean thrash metal band abroad. The album, titled The Search (es), was recorded in July 1988 and was released as a vinyl record. 3500 copies were distributed in Brazil and Chile. To support the release of The Search, Heavy Metal Maniac Records and producer Moisés Dell Monica organized a big concert in São Paulo in February 1989, at a place called Projeto Leste, with capacity for 5000 people. That night Necrosis were the protagonists of a show that also featured local bands MX, Korzus and Ratos de Porão. A few days before the concert the stellar group of the show, Kreator, declined. Necrosis was the closing act.

Necrosis returned to Chile in March 1989 with 1000 copies of The Search, which sold out quickly, to continue performing at local concerts with an average attendance of 2000 "thrashers". The band remained active for some time, but the studies of some members and the jobs of others would eventually separate them. Andy Nacrur and Rodrigo Westphal left the band to pursue other projects. In 1990, Necrosis performed its final concert at the House Constitution, putting the band on its first hiatus. Necrosis line-up at the time was Marcelo Ulloa (drums), Nataniel Infante (guitar), Pepe Nacrur (guitar), Miguel Ángel Montenegro (bass) and Andrés Marchant (vocals). In 1997, the label Toxic Records released The Search in CD format, which was distributed by EMI Odeon Chile.

Reunions and return to the thrash metal scene

After some years of silence Necrosis returned. In 1999, Andy, who participated a while in Massakre, decided to resurrect the band and only another member of the original line-up, guitarist Nataniel Infante, accompanies him. New musicians are added to have a strong impact in the local metal scene. Gustavo Robles (ex-Enigma) on vocals, Víctor Trujillo (ex-OrateGod) and César Añasco were the back-ups to summon about 1000 thrashers in a popular discotheque of the capital. This way, the second stage of the band started with a somewhat renewed line-up. Necrosis members were at the time Andy Nacrur (drums), Nataniel Infante (guitar), Gustavo Robles (vocals), César Añasco (guitar) and Víctor Trujillo (bass). After a few local concerts Víctor decided to leave Necrosis to join Tottem Corpse, a death metal group from the capital. He was replaced by an acquaintance of those years Rodrigo Onetto (ex-Caos, Execrator, Undercroft). "Mota", as they call him, would be the new bassist. This line-up started recording the songs that would be featured in the album Enslaved to the Machine (es), which was released and performed live in December 2001.

After important concerts with Massakre, Sadism, Torturer and the reunited Pentagram, Necrosis performed in La Serena in January 2002; shortly after the concert, César left the band, leaving a hard-to-fill position due to the many changes that occurred. After some line-up changes, the most stable guitarist at that time was Daniel Duarte (ex-Tornado and Belial). For reasons of work and great opportunities to continue his career abroad, Mota (Rodrigo Onetto) left Necrosis to pursue Undercroft further. Former bassist Víctor Trujillo replaced Mota in concerts to come. Later, Necrosis was the opening act for the Germans Kreator and Destruction at the Teatro Providencia, where over 1500 thrashers assisted. Then the band went on its second hiatus at the beginning of 2003.

After some years of silence, Necrosis reunited again retaking the rehearsals in June 2006, with one of its older members, Rodrigo Westphal, rejoining on bass. The line-up for the time was Gustavo Robles (vocals), Nataniel Infante (guitar), César Añasco (guitar), Rodrigo Westphal (bass) and Andy Nacrur (drums). After the band opened a show for Testament in 2007, some very difficult problems came and a little silence would ensue. Frontman Andy decided that Nataniel Infante and César Añasco should leave the band due to radical musical differences and for being a constant detriment toall the band's ambitious projects. A promising live album was rejected by Nataniel and César, leaving the band without projects.

Continuing with the hard work of finding musicians and continue to lead the Chilean thrash scene, the band recruited Daniel Duarte a second time with a little known guitarist, Roberto Villaroel. Unfortunately the job did not work with them and had to be replaced with Gerardo Salas (former ex-Septicemia, Necrodead, Atomic Noise Machine) and Lorie Martin (Deimos), which brought that touch of modernity and aggression that the band needed. In November 2009, Necrosis released its third album, Reborn, for which they planned a tour to promote it, announced on their MySpace. In 2010, they opened the show for Megadeth in Santiago, with great approval from concertgoers. In January 2012, Pablo Garriga (former member of the thrash metal band DeRoKa) joins on vocals. In Abril 2012, Necrosis was doing gigs and performed at The Metal Fest Santiago with bands like Anthrax, Testament, Kreator, etc.
