Morgan Neville (born October 10, 1967)[1] is an American film producer, director and writer.

Neville was born in Los Angeles, California, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and originally worked as a journalist in New York City and San Francisco,[2] before moving into film production in 1993. Neville's directorial début was the documentary Shotgun Freeway: Drives thru Lost L.A (1995),[1] and he went on to produce further documentaries on various musicians. He has been nominated for three Grammys for his films Muddy Waters: Can't Be Satisfied, Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story, and Johnny Cash's America.[2] He also directed the award-winning film, The Cool School, about the birth of Modern Art in Los Angeles.

Neville won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for their 2013 film 20 Feet from Stardom, on March 2, 2014.[3][4]

On January 23, 2015, Neville and Robert Gordon premiered the documentary film Best of Enemies at the Sundance Film Festival. It was shortlisted at the 2016 Academy Awards.

Neville also directed Keith Richards: Under the Influence, which Netflix released in September 2015.

His newest film, The Music of Strangers, opened in select theaters on June 10, 2016 after playing in festivals worldwide, such as Tribeca and Berlinale.
