Akinmayokun Awodumila (born 28 December), popularly known as May D, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and dancer. He was formally signed to the R&B duo P-Square record label "Square records".[2]

Early life and music career

Early life

May D was born into a family of seven (7). He was born in Lagos, he attended University of Lagos, Lagos where he studied Mass communication.

Music career

He rose to stardom in the same year he got signed to the label 2011.[3] On the 21 August 2012 it was officially announced that the Pop singer "May D" is no longer in the label, as stated by Premium Times news.[4][5]

2011: SoundTrack

On 13 May 2011 He released his first single "SoundTrack" under Square records. The video was released on 12 January 2012 and the video was directed by "Clarence Peters" and the video had over 83,702 views on YouTube due to the label deleted the video from their YouTube channel, which had over 10 million views .

Confam Entertainment

On 25 September 2012 "May D" founded an independent record label known as Confam Entertainment.[6]

Personal life

Relationships

May'D began dating Adebola Olowoporoku in 2007,[7] and she gave birth to a baby boy "Olamipoju" in 2013[8] for May D's. The pair ended their relationship in 2014.[9] "May'D" began dating Carolina Wassmuth from Sweden in 2014 till date.[10][11]

Controversies

In 4 April 2015, May D’s cousin and manager Oreoluwa Akinbode denied the allegations that he is a woman beater.

The truth is that the news has been out for a while and I haven’t spoken to anybody about it and May D has not either. When we read the news, we were shocked because it is false. We have spoken to our lawyers and our PR team and they have something they are working on. We want anything that would come out to be the official statement of the company.

In 6 April 2015, Debola who is the mother of "May D’s" son, sent an email to Linda Ikeji, to report the domestic violence she suffered from the beating by the singer "May D's".[13]

In 27 August 2015, May D lands in trouble for riding his "Hover Board". He stated on Twitter he going to sue Ikeja City Mall for using tear gas on me just because he was riding on his hover board at the mall. He also said they assaulted him, even almost shot him just for using his hover board at shoprite.[14]

House and Mercedez Benz acquisition

On 28 September 2013, it was reported that May D's bought a Mansion worth 150 million naira in "Magodo-Lagos" [15]

On 15 May 2016 May D's acquired a Mercedez Benz C Class 550 worth N12M.[16]

Stage Name

The name "May'D" was from his name Akinmayokun, he took the first three letters of "Mayokun" and came up with "May", an did likewise to his surname Awodumila by taking off the first three letters and picked "D".[17]
