Maraaya are a Slovene duo from Ljubljana, consisting of Marjetka and Aleš "Raay" Vovk. They represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Here for You".[1] The group's name is a combination of its members' names, while its pronunciation means "She has Raay" in the Slovene language.[2][3]

Career

The duo of vocalist Marjetka Vovk (née Jurkovnik, born 19 July 1984) and producer Raay (real name: Aleš Vovk, born 7 July 1984), both previously members of the turbo-folk group Turbo Angels, was formed in 2014 when they released their first single "Lovin' Me". This song was a big success at dance and iTunes music charts in Belgium, Germany, Italy and Slovenia. This song was put on Polish Bravo Hits Zima 2015. It charted at number 52 on Italy's FIMI chart.[4]

Raay is credited as the composer on Slovenia's 2014 Eurovision song "Round and Round", and they both contributed to Slovenia's 2014 Junior Eurovision song "Nisi sam (Your Light)". He also co-wrote and produced the music for "My Way Is My Decision", a hit song performed by Slovenian alpine skier Tina Maze. He wrote the music for many Slovenian pop artists. They composed Slovenia's 2015 Junior Eurovision song "Prva ljubezen" (The First Love).
