Sunil Chhetri has scored 51 international goals for India.

Sunil Chhetri is an Indian professional footballer, who represents India at the international level. The former captain of India national football team, he is regarded as the most popular footballer and best striker of India.[1] To date, he has represented India 91 times in official matches, scoring 51 international goals, and once in an unofficial match, scoring a single goal in that match as well. He is India's all-time top international goalscorer as well as the most-capped player, with 51 goals in 91 official international matches. He is referred to as "goal machine" by Indian media.[2]

Chhetri made his international debut for the national team on 12 June 2005 against arch-rival Pakistan, and scored in his very first match.[1] Chhetri's first international tournament for India was 2007 Nehru Cup where he scored 2 goals against Cambodia in 6-0 win.[3] Chhetri's 50th goal came in his 88th match in a 2–1 victory against Afghanistan in the 2015 SAFF Championship Final; his goal turned out to be the match decider and helped India win their seventh SAFF Championship title.[4] He is also the first Indian footballer to score 50 international goals.[5] Fifteen of his 51 goals came in friendly matches, 13 of those in the SAFF Championships, 8 in the Nehru Cups, 6 in World Cup qualifiers, and 2 in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. The rest have come in AFC Challenge Cup & its qualifiers.[5] His tally of 51 international goals for India puts him in joint 41st position in the list of footballers who have scored 50 or more international goals for their respective countries.[6]

He also previously appeared thrice for the India U-20 side and scored 2 goals in the 2004 South Asian Games,[7][8] which are not considered as the official ones.
