Mashrafe Mortaza who has captained Dhaka Gladiators and Comilla Victorians in the BPL has the record of playing most matches as captain. He also has the best win–loss percentage in the BPL of those who have played as a captain for at least 10 matches.

In cricket, the captain is a player who leads the team and has additional roles and responsibilities.[1][2] The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Its first edition occurred in 2012.[3] In the three seasons played, 26 players have captained their team in at least one match.[4]

Mashrafe Mortaza, the captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team from 2014,[5] has played the most matches as a captain, having led in all 33 matches that he has played in, with an overall win–loss percentage of 75.75%. Mosharraf Hossain of the Dhaka Gladiators has the best win–loss percentage in the BPL as a captain with 100%. However, he only captained for one match. Of those who have captained for at least 10 matches, Mashrafe Mortaza has the best win–loss percentage in the BPL, with a win–loss percentage of 75.75% from 33 matches. Mortaza leads in number of matches won as a captain with 25 wins. Of those who have captained at least 10 matches, Tamim Iqbal has the worst win–loss percentage of 25.00% from 12 matches. Mahmudullah Riyad current captain of the Barisal Bulls and former captain of the Chittagong Kings has lost the highest number of matches with 14 losses.

Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Tamim Iqbal, Alok Kapali, Mortaza, Shahriar Nafees, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, are the only players who have captained two or more teams. Shakib has captained the Khulna Royal Bengals and Rangpur Riders. Nasir has captained the Rangpur Riders and Dhaka Dynamites. Tamim has captained the Duronto Rajshahi and Chittagong Vikings. Kapali has captained the Barisal Burners and Sylhet Royals, Mortaza has captained Dhaka Gladiators and Comilla Victorians. Nafees has captained the Barisal Burners and the Khulna Royal Bengals. Mahmudullah has captained the Chittagong Kings and Barisal Bulls. Rahim is the only captain to have led three teams in BPL which are Duronto Rajshahi, Sylhet Royals and the Sylhet Super Stars.[4] Peter Trego of the Sylhet Royals has captained his team for the most number of matches without registering a win; he led his team in five matches which resulted in five losses.

Six players have captained the Sylhet Royals, five players have captained the Duronto Rajshahi, four players have captained the Barisal Burners, three players have captained the Chittagong Kings, Dhaka Gladiators, Khulna Royal Bengals, and four players have captained the Rangpur Riders. When taking count of the current teams, two players have captained the Dhaka Dynamites, Sylhet Super Stars and Chittagong Vikings, one player has captained the Comilla Victorians and Barisal Bulls. Of the 26 players, who have played at least one match as a captain, 16 of them are from Bangladesh. Of the ten others, four are from Sri Lanka, two are from Sri Lanka and one each from Australia, England, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.[4]

The list includes those players who have captained their team in at least one BPL match. The list is initially organised by the number of matches as a captain and if the numbers are tied, the list is sorted by win–loss percentage. If still tied then they are sorted by their last name.[lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3]
