Lin Gengxin (Chinese: 林更新, born 13 February 1988), is a Chinese actor. Lin is known for his roles in Scarlet Heart, Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon, and The Taking of Tiger Mountain.

Education

Lin Gengxin enrolled in the Shanghai Theatre Academy in 2007. During his college years, Lin appeared in low-budget films, television shows, short films and advertisements.

Career

Lin rose to fame with the 2011 hit drama Scarlet Heart, playing the role of 14th Prince Yinti. The series not only captured the first place spot among TV show ratings, but also went on to amass large number of views on online platforms, and subsequently captured a loyal fanbase across Asia. Lin became well-known in China as well as other parts of Asia, and won the Sohu TV Drama Festival Award for Best Male Newcomer.

In 2012, Lin starred in Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky, a television drama adaption of the popular role-playing game by developed by Taiwanese company Softstar Entertainment Inc. The series was a commercial hit, achieving an average rating of 1.86 and being the highest viewed television series in its time slot. The same year, he starred in Taiwanese drama Drama Go! Go! Go! alongside Ruby Lin.

In 2013, Lin played a supporting role in Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon. The film was commercially successful, and Lin was nominated for the Best New Actor award at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards.

In 2014, Lin starred in My Old Classmate alongside Zhou Dongyu. The film not only achieved excellent box office results, but also was critically acclaimed, winning the Jury Prize at the 21st Beijing College Student Film Festival. On October 1, Black & White: The Dawn of Justice premiered in cinemas; Lin starred in the film as Mark Chao's assistant, Chen Zhen. In December, Lin starred as one of two protagonists in the critically acclaimed The Taking of Tiger Mountain. The film topped the Chinese box office during its opening week earning US$51.9 million in six days. As of March 2015, the film has grossed over $150 million in China making it the tenth highest-grossing film of all time in China. The same year, he was confirmed as the male lead for Tsui Hark's upcoming 3D film Sword Master.

On January 24, 2015, Lin started filming for God of War, Zhao Yun, based on the Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.[1] He stars as the titular Zhao Yun, who falls in love with a girl named Xiahou Qingyi (played by Girls' Generation's Im Yoona). The drama reached viewership ratings as high as 2%, and recorded more than 10 billion hits through various Chinese online videos sites. The same year, he was cast in the 3D Hollywood historical epic The Great Wall, directed by Zhang Yimou. He has also been cast as Sun Wukong in Stephen Chow's Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons 2.

In May 2016, Lin was cast in the historical period action drama Princess Agents along with Zhao Liying and Shawn Dou.
