LDS Motion Picture Studios

The institution that is now the LDS Motion Picture Studios began as the BYU Motion Picture Studio in 1953, and led by Wetzel Whitaker.[1] It was originally located in a building called the Green Barn where the Ernest L. Wilkinson Center on Brigham Young University (BYU) Campus is now located.

In 1991 the studios separated from BYU and became a directly operated function of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

South Campus

In 2010, a campus in Elberta, Utah was approved by the First Presidency and construction began on a set of biblical Jerusalem.[2][3] The LDS Church has released several clips of scenes of Jesus Christ's life that were filmed there as part of the New Testament Film Project,[4] which was completed in mid-2013.[5]

Fire explosion at the LDS Motion Picture Studio Building

On March 26, 2014 in the morning, An electric box exploded on top of the LDS Motion Picture Studio building causing a power outage and fire. Occupants evacuated the building and the Provo City Fire Department soon put out the fire. No injuries were reported and the building was repaired.[6]
