Humanitas University (Italian: Università Humanitas ), known as Hunimed, is an Italian private university dedicated to the medical sciences. It is based in Rozzano (Milan) alongside the Humanitas Research Hospital.

Humanitas University provides a six-year course in Medicine taught in English and a three-year course in Nursing.

The University was founded in 2014.

History

The Institute was established and legally recognized on June 20, 2014 with a decree signed by the Minister of Education.[1]

Campus

Thanks to an investment of more than 20 million euro, a new campus is under construction and it will be ready for 2017/18. The campus will cover a total area of over 20.000 square meters. The project of the campus includes a Simulation Center of about 1.000 square meters, with 4 operating rooms, 3 multimedia rooms, 2 ambulatories, 1 emergency room, 4 rooms for clinical and surgical skills, 1 microscope room, 1 wet lab.[2]

Organization and administration

The University belongs to Humanitas Group, a private hospital group that owns also the Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan. Humanitas Group is part of a larger company, Techint Group.[3]

In 2016 Humanitas University has signed an agreement with Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, United States, to facilitate admission of Benedictine College pre-med students into its Medicine and Surgery degree program.[4]

Academics

The University offers the Doctor of Medicine and Surgery degree program taught in English[5]

Thanks to an agreement between Humanitas University and Benedictine College, the students admitted to the Humanitas University program are able to take the United States Medical License Examination Steps 1 and 2, making them eligible for a medical residency in the United States.[6]
