Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations

Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations are New Year countdown celebrations held in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong beginning in 31 December 2007 to down to 2008, and following this for every year.

2007-2008

The first New Year Countdown Celebrations fireworks in Hong Kong was part of the Hong Kong WinterFest, named "A Symphony of Lights down eve countdown." Apart from the International Finance Centre, the tallest building in Hong Kong at the time, the event also featured many other buildings on both sides of the Victoria Harbour. The event, which celebrated the arrival of 2008, attracted 400,000 spectators along both sides of the harbour. The countdown was televised live in Hong Kong, reaching more than 1.5 million TV audiences. Over 200 local and overseas media covered the spectacular that generated publicity value of more than HK$570 million.[1]

2008-2009

Aiming to echo the messages of hope and returning prosperity for New Year 2009, the five-minute choreographed musical pyrotechnic show was organised by the HKTB, presented by International Finance Centre and supported by Henderson Land Development Company Limited and Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited. In addition to Two International Finance Centre, a total of nine other buildings on Hong Kong Island participated in the pyrotechnic show. The theme song for the event was composed by renowned musician Mr Peter Kam and was performed by local singers. Altogether, some 400,000 spectators watched the event on site, and another 1.34 million watched TV broadcast. The HKTB arranged for the musical performances and the subsequent pyrotechnic show to be projected onto the facade of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The event attracted more than 200 local and overseas media guests, with the total publicity value generated exceeding HK$344 million. The event also provided a good platform for other activities, such as a New Year celebration organised by the Central and Western District, further enhancing festive ambience around the city.[2]

2009-2010

Costing HK$60 for Two International Finance Centre, the third countdown events built 10 different fireworks patterns, creating a three-dimensional effect. This was done by releasing fireworks in the north exterior wall at the front of the harbor. At the last minute prior to 1 January 2010, Two International Finance Centre displayed a countdown clock made of light-emitting diode on the external walls. When the clock hit 00:00 on 1 January 2010, the LED light showed the new year. Two International Finance Centre, together with Hong Kong Island and north of nine buildings, then played fireworks for the duration of 4 minutes and 15 seconds. The theme was "New Year's Eve party in Hong Kong", created by Hong Kong Tourism Board.

2010-2011
