ElectraMeccanica Vehicles Corp. is a Canadian Electric vehicle manufacturer established in 2015 in Vancouver, British Columbia and expected to release the Solo, its first designed product before the end of 2016.

In 2015, ElectraMeccanica produced a 3-wheel electric car named Sparrow that was originally designed and produced by Corbin Motors then Myers Motors.[1] Sparrow was 2.7 metres long, 1.2 metres wide and weighed 578 kilograms.[2] In addition to reducing Sparrow's weight, ElectraMeccanica also replaced its lead-acid battery with lithium-ion.[1]

The Solo will be a zero-emission, one-seat, three-wheel, battery electric vehicle promoted by ElectraMeccanica as “The Smartest Commuter Car On The Planet.” The Solo will have a 160 km (100 mile) travel length, a 130 km/h maximum speed and a 3-6 hour recharge time.[3] The Solo’s 8.6 kWh, 82 hp lithium-ion electric motor produces 140 ft-lbs of torque from a standstill.[4] EM demonstrated the Solo with a 16.1 kWh battery in September 2016, to be available in 2017.[5]

Their second designed product being developed is the Super Solo, a sport-car style of the 3-wheel, solo-driver electric vehicle.

Car components are provided from India and China, including a partnership with Zongshen Industrial Group.[6] Assembly is performed in British Columbia in New Westminster and North Saanich.[7] Sales sites will be located in Downtown Vancouver and in the USA in California and Nevada.

Origin

ElectraMeccanica was co-founded in 2015 by Henry Reisner of Intermeccanica and Jerry Kroll, former race-car champion and former CEO of CRAiLAR Technologies.[8] Kroll previously developled electric drive systems in race cars for five years at the NASA Research Park in Mountain View, California.[1]
