Ekk Nayi Pehchaan

Ekk Nayi Pehchaan is an Indian television drama series which premiered on Sony TV on 23 December 2013.^[1] The series marks the debut of Bollywood actresses Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure to television, along with Krystle D'Souza and Karan Sharma.^[2] The story takes on women's empowerment and education through relationships.^[3] The show went off air on 25 September 2014.

Plot summary

Ek Nayi Pehchaan focuses on a relationship between a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law. The story begins with a well reputed family: Suresh Modi, the owner of Sharda Textiles, his wife Sharda, his sons Karan and Chirag and married daughter Latika. Sharda meets Sakshi on a train journey. Aditya, the man whom she planned to elope with ditches Sakshi. Sharda consoles a heart-broken Sakshi and suggests that she return home. Back at Modi's mansion, celebrations are going on in full swing as Suresh decides to get Karan married to his business partner's daughter. Sharda is surprised when she learns that Sakshi is going to be her daughter-in-law. On the other hand, Sakshi is glad to meet Sharda once again and agrees to get married to Karan. But, Karan is unwilling to get married to Sakshi. But, after giving it much thought, he eventually gets married to Sakshi.

Sakshi realizes that even though Sharda is a perfect housewife she lacks self-confidence as she is illiterate. Sharda unknowingly thumb prints some important business document, thus surrendering the client to their rival. Angry, Suresh insults Sharda in front of the entire family. Sakshi is deeply hurt on seeing this and she decides to make Sharda literate, independent and confident. She thus encourages her to study and gets her enrolled in an adult education programme in a coaching class. Initially, none of her family members support Sharda but she is often motivated by Sakshi to carry on. Sharda eventually excels in her academic performance.

Later, it is revealed that Suresh has another wife called Pallavi. It is also known that she has 2 children. When Sharda and Dadi gets to know they are quite shocked. Out of anger Karan leaves the Modi mansion followed by Sharda and Sakshi and Karan quits his job. He tries to get a job without the name of Suresh modi.He eventually gets a job. But due to mis understandings in his company he leaves the job and remains jobless. Meanwhile Sharda starts a new factory. Pallavi's daughter, Shanaya decides to join this company and try to close down the factory. Latika decides to stay in Sharda textiles as she doesn't want Pallavi to take all the assets got due to her hardwork

Later, it is revealed that Pallavi has bone cancer and the reports suggest that it is on the last stage. The Doctor tells her to reveal it to her family, but she refuses. Meanwhile, Karan gets a job and Sharda tells him to go to the temple with Sakshi. They both go and Sakshi gets injured. Karan and Sharda take her to the hospital. It is the same hospital where Pallavi has come to meet her doctor. Due to the name confusion, "Mrs. Modi" between Pallavi and Sakshi, the receptionist gives Sharda Pallavi's room no. instead of Saksh's. Sharda comes to know about Pallavi's health and tells her to reveal it to the family. She initially refuses but agrees when Sharda tells that she'll take care of Pallavi's kids after Pallavi's death. Pallavi tells everyone about her illness. She further tells that Sharda, Karan and Sakshi will return to Modi house as it is her wish. All understand Pallavi except Shanaya. She refuses to accept that Sharda will be her mom after Pallavi's death. Pallavi is revealed as a good character and Shanaya comes across Pallavi's will according to which the power of attorney of all her property and business will got to Sharda, and the property is divided among Aarav, Shanaya, Latika, Chirag and Karan. Shanaya is furious at the fact that Chirag, Latika and Karan have their shares in her mom's property. She keeps mocking and insulting Sharda as she thinks that Sharda has manipulated Pallavi and made her mom on her side.

Suresh insults Sharda and Pallavi feels bad. She makes a plan to make Suresh realise his mistake.Pallavi starts her plan, later Suresh apologizes Sharda.Later Pallavi dies. Time passes,one month after Pallavi's death Karan and Sakshi decide to leave house but Sharda convinces them to stop and they decide to stay forever.Shanaya also decides to leave the house but Sharda convinces her to stop.Shanaya decides to stop but also decides to plot against Sharda and family so that Sharda herself will ask her to leave the house.Sakshi comes to know about her plan and warns Sharda.Shanaya tries to provoke Latika against Sharda.Karan also realises about Shanaya's intentions.Sakshi reveals all this to everyone.
