History

Eastgate Square opened in 1973 with Woolco, Eaton's, and Robinson's as its anchors.

Walmart, the mall's busiest tenant, had also announced it was considering relocating to a site barely a kilometre away at the corner of Centennial Parkway and the QEW/South Service Road. Walmart Canada had recently opened one of its first Supercentres in Hamilton, proving to be a very successful store. This new Walmart is a Supercentre as well, and opened on January 27, 2012.[2]

The area vacated by Walmart has been renovated to create a new retail wing, with stores including Winners, Dollarama, and Sport Chek. The new wing opened on August 20, 2013.[3]
