Dawson Gurley, known by his stage name Big Daws TV (stylized BigDawsTv) is an American YouTube personality and prankster whose main YouTube channel has videos featuring hidden-cameras of pranks and comedy social interactions.[4][5] As of October 14, 2016, his channel has more than 253 million views and more than 1.9 million subscribers.[6] Videos on his second channel named BigDawsVlogs formerly named BigDawsTvExtras, where he releases extra footage from his main videos and also posts vlogs, have more than 42 million views.[7]

Early life

Gurley was born on May 19, 1993 in Olathe, Kansas. He was inspired by the movie Jackass when he was 11 and started filming videos after receiving a video camera as a Christmas gift from his parents. After a while he moved out to Arizona with his friends and attended Arizona State University.[4][8][9]

Gurley dropped out of college about one year after graduated from high school and started filming videos full time.[4][10]

Gurley has collaborated with other notable YouTubers such as Andrew Hales, JStuStudios, DJ Sennett and Cody Strong.[11][12]

"Giving to People Who Give"

Gurley released a video on August 19, 2014 titled "Giving to People Who Give" which was filmed in Tempe, Arizona where he pretended to be a homeless panhandler, and whoever gave him money he returned their money plus extra cash, at the end he met Charna Foley, a homeless women who has been filling job applications for three months with no luck where Gurley donated her some money and made her break down in tears. Gurley helped Foley with raising donations.[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]

Gurley has made other "give back" videos such as "Giving Away Jordans" and "New Bikes for the Homeless".[21][22][23]

"You want beef?"

Gurley went to the hood with ground beef duct taped inside his shirt and asked people if they want beef, which is sound to start a fight, while they were thinking he wanted to start a fight he opened his shirt and showed them he is selling the ground beef, doing so can be extremely dangerous, the video was released on May 26, 2014.[24][25]

Klay Thompson Look-alike

Gurley was a star basketball player for Olathe East High School. He has been told that he looks like Klay Thompson. This inspired him to film a video in which he has his facial hair shaved into a goatee like Klay Thompson's and goes around playing basketball and pranking people on the campus of Arizona State University, all while imitating Klay Thompson, the video was released on June 4, 2015.[1][26]

Discography

Gurley has released a rap music album on April 20, 2016 with the title of "Ernie's Journey" in the format of digital download on iTunes, featuring Futuristic, who has been collaborating in Gurley's prank videos where Gurley performs rap music in public as a nerd character named Ernie.[27][28][29][30][31]
