Cruit Island (Irish: An Chruit or Oileán na Cruite) is a small inhabited island in the Rosses region of County Donegal, Ireland. It is linked to the mainland by bridge.

The island is a major centre for rock climbing on its granite sea-cliffs; the 2015 guidebook lists about 27 single-pitch climbs, mostly established in 1985. Since 2007 another 300 rock climbs have been recorded on the granite sea cliffs all over the island[1] The online guidebook is

Culture

Cruit Island has a strong musical heritage. Local musician Seán McBride wrote the famous Irish ballad "The Homes of Donegal" in 1955.[2] The song "Thíos Cois na Trá Domh" originates from the island and remains a very popular song in the Donegal Gaeltacht to this day.
